Living Newspaper
Players act out a news story suggested by the audience: the anchor reports it, field correspondents appear, experts are interviewed and adverts punctuate the broadcast - all improvised.
About
Living Newspaper is a format game that lets an ensemble satirise news media and current events simultaneously. Each player takes a different role in the broadcast - anchor, field reporter, expert, eyewitness, advertiser - and the team must maintain the fiction of a coherent news programme while playing the absurdity of the story to its limit.
How to Play
- 1
An audience member suggests a news story (can be real, imagined or absurd).
- 2
One player acts as the studio anchor and opens the broadcast.
- 3
The anchor crosses to field correspondents, experts, eyewitnesses and other guests played by the ensemble.
- 4
Commercial breaks may interrupt at any time - players must instantly become advertisers promoting a product relevant to the story.
- 5
The anchor wraps up the story with a closing summary.
Variations
- -Social media news: all coverage is delivered as if through social media posts, short video clips and comment sections.
