Alphabet Game
Two players perform a scene in which each line of dialogue must begin with the next letter of the alphabet, starting from a letter called by the audience. Z must be the emotional peak.
About
The Alphabet Game is a constraint-based scene game that forces players to find genuine character and emotional content within a strict formal limitation. The constraint itself is never funny - what is funny is the players committing fully to real scene work despite it. The letter becomes a trigger for unexpected word choices that push the scene in surprising directions.
How to Play
- 1
The audience calls out a starting letter of the alphabet.
- 2
Two players begin a scene from a suggestion. Every line of dialogue must begin with the current letter of the alphabet.
- 3
After each line, the alphabet advances by one letter.
- 4
Players must find ways to make each letter feel natural and earned - not forced.
- 5
The scene must reach an emotional peak at the letter Z.
Variations
- -Reverse alphabet: start at Z and work backwards. Two alphabets: two pairs run simultaneously, aiming to finish at the same moment.
